Child Safety Standards | Prevention of Exploitation Policy

Review UTurn's zero-tolerance policy against Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE).

Effective Date: November 1st, 2024 (Updated May 24th, 2026)

At UTurn, our mission is to build clean, helpful tools that make it easy for people to coordinate real-world friendships and conversations safely. We enforce a strict Zero-Tolerance Policy against Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) and Child Sexual Abuse and Exploitation (CSAE).

We firmly believe that personal privacy must go hand-in-hand with human safety. This document explains the rules we follow and how we work to keep our app completely safe from bad actors and predatory behavior.

1. Absolute Zero Tolerance

UTurn completely outlaws the creation, sharing, sending, or storing of child exploitation materials. Our rules are unyielding:

  • Immediate System Ban: Anyone who uses our app to share or solicit exploitation materials will be permanently banned from the network immediately.
  • Prohibition of Grooming: We strictly ban any behavior meant to build deceptive relationships with minors or coordinate unsafe offline interactions.
  • No Exceptions: These safety rules are enforced strictly across every part of the app, including text messages, voice calls, video streams, and our local neighborhood map features.

2. How We Protect the Network

To keep our community safe while respecting our promise to minimize the data we store, our security approach matches how each feature works:

A. Private 1-on-1 Chats and Calls

Because your private 1-on-1 texts and calls are fully scrambled on your local phone before they leave, our systems cannot see or read them. To keep this space safe, we rely entirely on User Reporting. If you receive an unsafe or exploitative message from another user, reporting it inside the app shares that specific conversation with our safety team so we can investigate and permanently block the offending account.

B. Group Chats

To make sure our network cannot be used by groups of bad actors to share illegal material, multi-user group chats are not scrambled on both ends. While group chats run over secure connections and are never tracked or saved during regular use, keeping them structurally open allows UTurn to use automated scanning software to find and instantly delete known signatures of abuse material.

3. How to Report Abuse

Keeping our community safe is a shared responsibility. If you notice any child exploitation material or suspicious behavior, report it immediately to our dedicated safety team at: support@uturnapp.com

All safety alerts bypass regular support channels and are reviewed immediately by real operators as a top priority.

4. Taking Action Against Violations

When we confirm a violation of our child safety rules, we take final action immediately:

  • Instant Deletion: Any verified exploitation files or records are wiped from our physical equipment instantly.
  • Account Deletion: The offender’s account and UTurn ID are permanently erased.
  • Device Blacklisting: We block the offender’s physical phone from ever registering a new account on our network.

5. Working with Law Enforcement

UTurn strictly complies with federal safety laws and works directly with law enforcement to remove predatory behavior from the web.

  • Mandatory Federal Reports: In compliance with United States laws, UTurn immediately reports any verified instance of child exploitation material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC).
  • Lawful Investigations: While our app doesn’t keep historical conversation records or background tracking files, we work fully with valid legal requests (such as court warrants or subpoenas). We will hand over whatever limited details exist (such as registration emails or active account IDs) to help authorities protect children.
